The Entelios story
Foundation of Entelios AG
Entelios AG is founded as the first demand response provider in Europe. A fully automated load management system is being developed to control decentralized generation plants, particularly for energy-intensive industry and utilities. The trading of control reserve for the first industrial load (Paulaner brewery) in the mFRR (manual Frequency Restoration Reserve), formerly MRL (minute reserve), will begin as early as next year.
Market access to EPEX spot
Start of marketing of aFRR (automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve) formerly SRL (Secondary Control Reserve) – first company to prequalify and market industrial load for aFRR (RW Silicium). Shortly afterwards, the direct technical connection to the European power exchange EPEX-Spot (second company in total) and the introduction of 24/7 monitoring of the systems took place. In the following year, the company was acquired by the US demand response pioneer and global market leader EnerNOC.
Marketing in all control areas
Within a very short space of time, a wide variety of systems for flexibility marketing were contracted in all four German control areas: electric glass tank heating, air separators, copper electrolysis, chlorine electrolysis and the first large-scale battery storage system.

Start own Algo-Trader
Takeover of Entelios AG by the Norwegian energy group Agder Energi AS (now Å Energi). Launch of the in-house developed and automated algo-trader for intraday trading with two industrial power plants. Entelios is also the first provider to market third-party facilities from energy-intensive industries under the Interruptible Loads Ordinance (AbLaV). This includes the first remotely controlled paper machine in Germany that can be completely shut down within a few minutes.
First large-scale battery storage in the FCR
First marketing of a large-scale battery storage system in the FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve), formerly PRL (Primary Control Power). With PRL-Start, Entelios is active in all three balancing energy products with its own plant pools. In the following year, pioneering pilot projects for the Cross-Market Optimisation of industrial loads (horizontal and vertical optimization in short-term trading and in control reserve) are developed. In addition, the first German hybrid power plant (battery & gas turbine) is being prequalified.

Start of control operation of Entelios Cross-Market Optimisation (CMO) of battery storage systems in control reserve and intraday trading.
CMO for power-to-heat systems
Expansion of Entelios’ CMO (Cross-Market Optimisation) of control reserve and short-term trading on EPEX Spot for large-scale power-to-heat plants in industry and at utilities.
First large-scale battery storage in the aFRR
Continuous expansion of Cross-Market Optimisation: first large-scale battery storage facility in Germany to be marketed alongside FCR (formerly PRL) and intraday trading in aFRR (formerly SRL). Entelios is expanding its portfolio of assets to more than 20 different asset types.
